There was no club meeting today due to the weather keeping the Legion closed. As you may know, Linda did not show-up this morning, but we heard from her at about 7:15. She has been run off the road and in a ditch. She is not hurt and car is OK. She was very sorry at being late. Bill told her not to worry about it and reminded her that the main thing was she was not hurt.
I apologize if this was an inconvenience for anyone.

Program:
The program today was going to be offered by Craig Yost. Here are his notes:

This is a very important time of the year for everyone who has or going to get Medicare.
“ GOOD NEWS”
PART ‘B’ MONTHLY PAYMENT
DID NOT INCREASE IN 2009

Medicare Advantage Plans
THERE ARE CHANGES IN EVERY PLAN I HAVE SEEN THIS YEAR!! Some for the better and some for not.
There are some great plans out there especially the ones that have a $0 monthly premium that have a Part D drug plan included!!  You will need to review them and see if they make sense for your situation.
These are Medicare contracted plans to companies to provide you medical coverage. (Coventry, Humana, Pyramid, etc.)
Plan type include: PPOs, HMOs, PFFS.
Need to verify your physician is a part of the specific program.  Some plans have almost every physician and hospital in KC and surrounding areas others do not. All provide for emergency services where ever you are.
Monthly costs are $0 to $X dollars per month.
Some services have a co-pay.
All have a Maximum annual out of pocket cost.
(Vary by Provider and Plan)
Some include a Drug Plan.
Usually provide additional benefits. (Vision, Dental, Hearing, Health Clubs)
>>>>>>>>>> Part D – Prescription Drugs <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Types:
Stand alone plans
Work with Medicare only
Medicare with a Supplement
Medicare Advantage Plans without a drug plan
OR
Combined with a Medicare Advantage Plan

Payments: Are either taken out of your Social Security check or monthly payments you make via check or bank withdrawal. If you are not sure, call you part D provider. Your plan may be going up a lot this year!!!
Drugs are usually categorized into 4 or more categories or tiers. Each tier “usually” has a co-payment associated with it. (For example $5,$25,$50)
1 - Generic and low cost
2 - Brand name
3 – Exclusive (usually no other substitute)
4 – Specialty
GAP or “DONUT HOLE” - After the combined drug costs reached $2700 YOU pay 100% until costs reach $4350 then coverage begins again.  (Gap amount is $1650) (Page 67) Some Plans have Limited coverage through the GAP
IMPORTANT!!! You need to check your plan to verify your drugs are part of it and what “tier” it is to determine your co-pay.
>>>>>>>>>>Part D and Advantage Dates<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Open enrollment:
Nov. 15 – December 31th
AFTER DEC 31ST YOU CAN NOT CHANGE UNTIL THE NEXT YEAR
Limited Change Period
January 1 – March 30th
Like Plans to Like Plans only!
Special Enrollments
Anytime a “Qualified” event occurs
Dropped from plan, move out of area, Just turned 65 or qualify for Medicare, others. See Medicare Book.
>>>>>>>>>>> Notes <<<<<<<<<<<<<<

If you have someone in Missouri there are special programs for those who qualify. These include persons who are low income and Medicaid.
**********************************************************
Please check your plans, your parents plans, your friends plans. Changes could cost them a change in coverage or costs.

Happy birthday to John Lewis.

Craig Yost will be providing the program next week. The topic will be changes to the Medicare system.

Board Announcements:
1. Kansas District is doing I-135 Conferences, so we need someone to attend the conference either in Ottawa or Salina in February.
2. In place of the Christmas Party, we will be donating the money to charity. If you have suggestions, please let someone on the board know before the next board meeting (Jan. 12).

Program:
The program today was presented by Major Mark with the Salvation Army. He gave a magic show on what need really means and how one person can make a difference. This is the 109th Year of Bell Ringing. They’ve seen a 77% increase in the number of people coming to the Army for the food pantry this year. They’ve taken on 110 more families at the Olathe division for Christmas Angels. For the shelter, 82 people are on the waiting list. In Johnson County, the Salvation Army serves 8,000 people. Remember: One need, one person, one life, one donation, one volunteer at a time is how the Salvation Army can do what it does to serve others.

Have a great week!
Amy
